The aircraft has a scanner built into the nose cone and this has an optical image sensor with a detector array formed as a two dimensional cell pattern (18). The signals generated by each detector element are digitised and transmitted to a neural network processing system. Signals from the network are received by separate processing stations coupled to the guidance computer that can also be configured as a neural network. The trained neural network has a feedback network that has a vector generator based upon the intensity values from the image sensor (18). The vector data is received by an associative network.
