Prior art: measures for largely avoiding disturbances. Technical problem: faulty performance is produced during tests. Errors must be reconstructed and analysed. Misinserted (lost or added) cells are particularly problematic. Basic concept: the cells are provided with continuous cell sequence numbers by means of which lost or added cells are recognised at the receiving end. Lost cells are replaced by other cells, added ones are removed. Example: all cells belonging to a connection are temporarily stored in a type of first-in-first-out store. When the consecutive numbering is disturbed, a check is made whether the original sequence is continued again later (in the case of inserted cells) or a sequence which is at least correct in itself can be found (in the case of lost cells). Advantage: can be advantageously used not only in tests but also in operation.
