Neutrons pass through an object (10) to be imaged and impinge on a converter (16) generating electrons in a chamber (15) containing a gas (17); the electrons are amplified by a Townsend avalanche effect to produce photon fluxes; an intensifying means (29) generates light pulses calibrated on the basis of the photons thus produced; and the light pulses are located and counted at a uniform rate by an array of charge-coupled sensors (58) delivering a processed signal for forming an image of the object (10). This system may be used for observation and monitoring.
|
