PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oil ring for an internal combustion engine capable of surely reducing oil consumption. SOLUTION: To achieve this objective, the oil ring 1 for the internal combustion engine having the following features is adopted: The two piece structure oil ring consisting of an oil ring main body 2 having a substantial I-shape section area and a coil expander 3. The oil ring main body 2 consists of a first rail 21 and a second rail 22 sliding with a cylinder liner inner circumference wall and a web 23 having a plurality of oil return holes for flowing down oil scraped from the inner circumference wall of the cylinder liner to a piston back surface. The oil ring main body 2 is further provided with a coil expander storing recess part 2b along its inner circumference surface. In an axial section area of the oil ring main body in such a state that the coil expander 3 is arranged in the coil expander storing recess part 2b, a clearance area formed between the oil ring main body 2 and the coil expander 3 is 1%-50% of the section area of the oil ring main body.
