Drive system for printing cylinder - Incorporates hydraulic release system to allow phase adjustment of cylinder

The drive system is for a printing cylinder (3) in a multiple cylinder printing machine. It allows the cylinder to be driven without slippage in a given phase relationship with the other cylinders, but the phase angle may be altered when desired. The cylinder (3) is driven via a gearwheel (4) which is rigidly coupled to the shaft stub (2) at the end of the roller. There is a gear crown (6) firmly seated on a collar (5) on the gearwheel and capable of being lifted to allow free rotation by hydraulic pressure. The hydraulic fluid is supplied via a pipe (10) to a fixed cylindrical body (9) inside a bearing member (8). The fluid flows through a first line (17) to the collar and through a second line (16) to an expanding brake ring inside a fixed drum. USE/ADVANTAGE - Easy adjustment of phase of printing cylinder.
