A biofilter to clean organically polluted air incorporates a horizontal air-permeable filter substrate arranged parallel to gravitational force as a supporting medium for bioactive microorganisms; that the filter substrate is a loose pile of soft fine particles such as wood cuttings, sawdust, cork, foam granulate or fibres supported by an air-permeable base; that the microorganisms in the filter substrate are held moist by a water sprinkler. USE/ADVANTAGE - The filter cleans air polluted by organic aerosols. The filter substrate remains effective for a long time and the biological cleaning of the effluent air is more effective.
