<p>PURPOSE:To prevent the increase of redundancy by including no DCT codes of different video groups in each sink block and being enough only if a quantization number is inserted in the sink block. CONSTITUTION:An input digital image signal is compressed by the encoding generating variable length encoding output, the quantity of data of the variable length encoding output for a prescribed period is made below a target value in buffering circuits 5, 6 when the variable length encoding output is transmitted, and the variable length encoding output for which the quantity of data is controlled is converted into the constitution of a sink block by a packing circuit 8 and is transmitted by a transmission device. The data area length of the sink block is stipulated so that the variable length encoding output for the prescribed period controlled by buffering circuits 5, 6 may be included in an integral number of sink blocks. By this constitution, the only insertion of a quantization number is enough, wasteful areas within the sink block are decreased and the number of reproducible data at the time of reproducing speed change is increased.</p> |
