A single-stage, three-gear compound mechanism developed on the basis of the laws that rule planetary gears allows a continuous wide range of speed of rotation to be obtained for all planar mechanisms according to DIN 42677, thanks to a fixed step-down or step-up ratio (i) comprised between 1.5 and 4.5 million. The attainable efficiency ( eta ) equal to or higher than 95 % is obtained as a result of the design of the splined shaft, identical to the torque summing shaft, and by the choice of a corresponding driving or driven gear with coupling pins for both disclosed variations (fig. 4 and fig. 5), with a minimal inner rolling performance. An Aditional rolling contact length is achieved thanks to the wobbling undulating movements of the inner wheel (fig. 4, no. 2), influencing the total step-down or step-up ratio. The mechanism is mostly made of highly-stressable composite material with an integrated fibre matrix by an injection moulding technique. This mechanism designed as a modular system requires only small modifications (fig. 4, no. 8) to achieve different speeds of rotation or torques within each performance class. By replacing the roller bearings by electric bearings, N </= 5 million speed of rotation ranges are achieved. This compact and light-weight mechanism is suitable for optimal adaptation of speeds of rotation and torques, as well as for applications which require high accurancy of adjustment.
