The rail (10), esp. Vignoles rail, has a foot (14), which is fastened on e.g. a sleeper (12), via fasteners (46,48). The rail foot is at least partially held by a holder (20). The size of the holder on the sleeper, at right angles to the longitudinal rail axis (32), is larger than that of the rail foot. A clamp element (98) e.g. spring etc, is located between the holder and the part of the rail foot away from the sleeper. The holder consists of two parts, and is at least partially enclosed by an elastic intermediate layer (36), which has a partial metal layer. USE/ADVANTAGE - Railway track in which resultant force applied by vehicle extends through support surface of rail, with vibration dampening action.
