Pictures from a rectangular objective (13) are focussed onto a focal plane (15), then to a lens (16) producing parallel rays. The rays are reflected from a sweeping mirror (11) to a mirror (18) and are focussed onto a cooled infrared detector array. The array has twice the number of pixels to the number of detectors on each line and 10 lines. The sweep mirror initiates a sinusoidal sweep at a rate above the spacing between detector pixels. ADVANTAGE - Replaces both alternating sweep single detector and multiple detector systems. Better resolution than single detector.
