PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for working the end faces of optical fibers to a mirror surface and reduce coupling loss by interposing tacky liquid between the cores of the optical fibers inserted into a guide pipe from its both ends and interposing one end of the guide pipe between the clads. CONSTITUTION:The tacky liquid 2 having the refractive index equal or approximate to the refractive index of cores 5a, 5'a is put into the flexible guide pipe 1 having an inside diameter nearly equal to the diameter of the cores 5a, 5'a of optical fibers 5, 5' and a refractive index equal or approximate to the refractive index of the clads 5b, 5'b to interpose the tacky liquid 2 between the core 5a and core 5'a of the optical fibers 5, 5' and interpose part of the guide pipe 1 between the clads 5b, 5'b by which the connection of the optical fibers of low loss may be achieved without working the end faces of the optical fibers to a mirror surface. |
