A filter press separating device (10) comprising a drivable carriage (16) with a track (18) which slidably mounts a shuttle (32). A sprung latch (20) is mounted adjacent one end of the track (18) and is engageable with a pack of filter plates (12) during separation of an end plate therefrom. A sprung pawl (34) is provided on the shuttle (32) engageable with a plate (12) to be separated from the pack of plates. Inclined abutment surfaces (40, 42) are provided on the pawl (34) engageable with pins (14) on the plates (12) to allow the shuttle (32) to pass thereby, and also with an end block (24) and a plate (26) provided at the end of the track (18). The surfaces (40, 42) and block (24) and plate (26) are arranged such that the pawl (34) engages rapidly between a plate (12) to be separated from the pack and the remainder of the pack. |
