The inspection machine has a turntable (14) with a number of reception points around its periphery at which a bottle (20) is supported between a controlled rotation plate (22) and a centring head (23). The stopper (21b) lies at one side of the bottle neck and can be raised and lowered to move it into a given position relative to an optical checking device (12). The stopper is engaged by a finger element (46) moving the stopper with its rubber seal (21b') into an outer position and holding it in this position.
