PURPOSE:To provide a multimedium multiplexing system which matches with a packet network that limits the transmission rate and can apply the packet network at the low cost and with high efficiency. CONSTITUTION:A multimedium multiplexing system which outputs the data at a variable rate to a packet network that limits the transmission rate is provided with a multiplexing part 7 which multiplexes the data on a real time medium 3 and a non-real time medium 4 and a control part 2 which performs the time division multiplex control of the part 7. The part 2 applies the multiplex control to the data on the medium 3 with preference so that the transmission rate of the multiplex output never exceeds the prescribed rate of the packet network. It is desirable for the part 2 to declare a call for the multiplex output and to report the total average rate of the medium 3 as an average rate of the packet network, the total peak rate of the medium 3 as a peak rate of the packet network, or the value smaller than the total peak rate of the medium 3 as an average rate of the packet network respectively. Furthermore the part 2 compares the transmission rate of the multiplex output with the prescribed rate of the packet network and then suppresses the coding rate of the medium 3 when the difference of both rates is larger than a prescribed level. |
