Appts. is for cutting the foot of ham travelling transversely along a conveyor (C). Above the conveyor (C), a prehension system (15,16) is located prior to a longitudinally orientated saw (19). The prehension system grips the ham securely and holds it in position such that desired cutting line is aligned with the saw. Cutting is by relative displacement of the prehension system and the saw. The saw (19) is a fixed rotating disc. The means of prehension are supported on the lower end of an arm (10) which is capable of angular displacement about a horizontal axis (8). Cutting is during forward displacement of the arm. The prehension system comprises complementary front (15) and rear (16) elements forming a pincer. These elements (15,16) comprise curved sections (15a,15b,16a,16b) associated in pairs to grip the ham close to its thickest section and close to the foot. The elements (15,16) are manoeuvred by jacks (17,18). The jack (18) associated with the rear element (16) is the prime mover. USE/ADVANTAGE - Pork butchery.
