PURPOSE:To produce optical fiber capable of shortening a time required for reducing linear velocity to one at which a bobbin can be changed. CONSTITUTION:When length of optical fiber 11 wound by a bobbin 20 reaches given length, a perform driving motor 5 is stopped and feed of a preform 1 for optical fiber to a heating and melting furnace 2 is suspended. Then the number of revolutions of a take-up driving motor 16 is increased by 30% and the motor is maintained in this state until the outer diameter of the optical fiber 11 becomes thinner than a determined value. Then, while the preform driving motor 5 is being stopped, the velocity of the take-up driving motor 16 is controlled so as to make the outer diameter of the optical fiber 11 into a desired outer diameter during change of bobbin to reduce linear velocity. |
