An electric vehicle network comprising vehicles 13 arranged for unbound movement on streets and roads and a multiplicity of stops for the vehicles on a travel route for these. The vehicles are provided with an electric drive motor 14, electric accumulator 15, two current collectors 18,19 for contact with each of two contact lines, which are arranged as mutually alternating sections of an overhead line 11 having alternately the one and the other of two polarities, and coupling members 20 for connecting the drive motor and the accumulator one to the other and to the contact lines. The sections of the overhead line are of uniform length and the current collectors on the vehicles are arranged at a mutual spacing in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle, which spacing is substantially equal to the said length of the sections. The overhead line is arranged along a stretch of the travel route in the region of each stop and is extended over an acceleration distance for the vehicles, from the stop region in the intended direction of travel along the travel route, for acceleration of the vehicle from stationary to a predetermined speed, in the course of which electrical energy is stored up in the accumulator and kinetic energy in the mass of the vehicle. <IMAGE> |
