A device pertaining to movable roofs, especially for goods haulage vehicles, comprises a longitudinally adjustable drive mechanism 13 which, as a result of compression of the roof in the longitudinal direction, causes the roof to shift in a lateral direction which is essentially at right angles to the longitudinal direction. The roof is specifically a cover roof and the drive mechanism 13 preferably comprises a piston/cylinder unit acting in the longitudinal direction of the roof.
