The transmission system has the image data provided by the document scanner within the transmitting facsimile device coded prior to its transmission, the coded data entered in an error correction memory (8). A transmission error in the facsimile transmission between transmitting and receiving facsimile devices is detected at the reception side and initiates an error correction mode at the transmitting side, in which the coded data held in the error correction memory (8) is transmitted. The error correction memory (8) may have 2 storage locations, operated in alternation, the data read out from the memory combined with filling bits before transmissions. ADVANTAGE - Simple facility for data retransmission when transmission fault is detected.
