REFRIGERANT RECOVERY UNIT An improved refrigerant recovery unit is provided for evacuating and storing refrigerant from a mechanical refrigeration system. The recovery unit includes a portable refrigerator circuit charged with a refrigerant having a lower saturation temperature than the target refrigerant to be recovered. The recovery unit refrigerant is passed through an evaporator coil used to chill a recovery tank adapted for flow connection with the refrigeration system to be evacuated, thereby creating a pressure differential which causes the target refrigerant to flow into the recovery tank.
