A machine is provided for applying electrically insulated housings to electrical connectors of the flag type, where the housings 18 extend from one side of a carrier strip 20 and comprise two hinged together portions 22, 24 adapted to be closed about the connector and retained thus by integral latches. The machine comprises a feed member 56 which feeds the housings forward to the assembly position, a ram 36 which reciprocates towards and away from the support surface at the assembly position, and equipment which turns one portion 24 of the housing about the hinge and towards the second part 22 so that it lies in the path of the ram. This turning equipment comprises a guide plate 68 which lies in the path of the housings and which has an inclined edge 70 to bend up their portions 24, and a spring-biased reciprocating arm 72, actuated by the ram through linkages, which completes the folding operation before the ram itself engages the housing portions and latches them. Concomitantly with the closing of the housing a shearing member 118 severs the housing from its feed strip and also cuts off the waste portion of the strip. |
