The expansion element (17) consists of bars (15) connected by two sets of scissors levers (16) to an expansion rod (12). Alternatively the expansion element can comprise a clamping cone, expanding cone and expansion rod, and an expanding body. The latter consists of an expansion ring. The double conical expansion body consists of a basic body (9) to which is screwed a double conical coupling ring (10), or it may be connected to a centering point (28). The double cone provides a more secure seating for the pipe ends and prevents sand from the sand blasting process from entering the pipes.
