PURPOSE:To enable a vehicle to stably turn at curves and corners on a low-mu road without changing the attitude of the vehicle body. CONSTITUTION:A parameter regarding the frictional resistance mu of a road surface is detected and the angle of a steering angle and lateral acceleration acting on the vehicle are detected so as to determine whether or not the vehicle is cornering. When the frictional resistance of the road surface is recognized as being small according to a parameter regarding the detected frictional resistance and cornering of the vehicle is detected, gear shifts by automatic transmissions 3, 4, 5 are inhibited. The road surface mu can be anticipated by means of detection of e.g. the angle of the steering angle, vehicle speed, and the operating hydraulic pressure of a power steering device. |
