PURPOSE:To improve the display characteristics of the active matrix type liquid crystal display device by suppressing the generation of parasitic capacity. CONSTITUTION:Active matrix substrate side light shield films 106 and 107 do not overlap with a gate electric conductor 102 as a scanning line, so no parasitic capacity is generated between the active matrix substrate side light shield films 106 and 107 and gate electric conductor 102, which does not overlap with a picture element electrode 110, so no parasitic capacity is generated between the gate electric conductor 102 and picture element electrode 110 either. A counter substrate side light shield film is formed covering the gaps between the active matrix substrate side light shield film 106 and 107 and gate electric conductor 102 which do not overlap with each other, so light leaking from the gaps can be cut off. The counter substrate light shield film needs to shield only the gaps, so the aperture ratio is not decreased. The active matrix substrate side light shield film 106 may function as a drain electrode or the drain electrode may be formed separately. |
