PURPOSE:To provide the fusion splicing machine for coated optical fibers which integrally and vertically moves a scalping station, a fusing station and a microscope. CONSTITUTION:A moving base 2 is freely vertically movably mounted on a base plate 1. The scalping station 4, the fusing station 5 and the microscope 6 are integrally fixed and disposed successively from the lower side toward the upper side on this moving base 2. The coated optical fibers are aligned to the scalping station 4 in the supply position of the coated optical fibers and are subjected to scalping. In succession, the end faces of the bare optical fibers exposed by the scalping are cut. The moving base 3 is then lowered to align the position of the fusing station 5 to the supply position of the coated optical fibers. While the bare optical fibers set in a V-groove block are observed by the microscope 6, the axes of the fibers are aligned and electricity is discharged by electrodes 21a, 21b, by which the coated optical fibers are fusion spliced. |
