PURPOSE:To improve the visibility and reduce the size of a display part by displaying the direction and the name of a road branching from an intersection right before the intersection. CONSTITUTION:The navigation device 10 mounted on an automobile consists of a map book 33, a route guide device 12, a GPS antenna 1, a distance sensor 16, and an azimuth sensor 17. The route guide device 12 is equipped with an LCD display unit 19 as a display and so constituted as to calculate the current position according to pieces of information from the sensor and antenna and then display a book number, a page number, and a frame number of the map book 33, a travel course in the frame, etc., corresponding to the current position. Then a variable N is prepared and 1 is set as N; and an N-th branch direction and its course name are read in among VICS data stored in a work memory. Then the branch direction is displayed on the N-th line on the LCD display unit 19 with an arrow and the course name is displayed on the same line. |
