The parking brake is operated by a simple handbrake lever(6) which acts on a coupling unit(11) between the manual lever and the servo drive(2). The coupling unit connects directly to the handbrake cables(12). The operation of the handbrake lever initiates the servo drive to relieve the manual parking force. If the servo fails then the brake is applied manually. Control sensors(14,15) monitor the actual brake action and the programmed brake action and activate the servo drive when required. If the servo fails, then it is uncoupled from the unit by a clutch, allowing unimpeded manual action. The manual lever is cranked for mechanical advantage. USE/ADVANTAGE- Parking of heavy vehicles; simple,failsafe operation.
