PURPOSE: To provide a method and apparatus for releasably fixing a mold piece used for molding an artificial eye such as a hydrophilic contact lens. CONSTITUTION: This apparatus is constituted including a direction energy means such as an ultrasonic welding system which has an convex ultrasonic output end of an output horn so as to be extended inside the outer concave part of one mold piece and a shoulder to rest upon the flange of the mold piece thereby centering it. Directive energy such as ultrasonic vibration is applied via an energy output horn 18 to soften or fuse the fitting periphery parts of lens molding pieces together.
