O.Z. 0050/43029 Ethylene oxide is prepared by oxidizing ethylene with oxygen in the presence of silverand promoter-containing catalysts using at least two silver catalysts of different selectivity and activity in a combined catalyst bed, wherein the gaseous reaction mixture comes into contact with silver catalysts of increasing activity and decreasing selectivity on passage through the reactor.
