A program-controlled washing machine features a laundry drum rotating in a washing soln. container. The drum is driven by a motor and the water supply is controlled by a water level regulator. The speeding up time of the drum is measured until a preset revolution speed is reached. After the switching off of the drive motor, the slowing down time of the drum until it reaches a standstill is registered. These values are fed to a fuzzy processor or a comparable device. Control values for controlling the water supply are deduced from the difference between the speeding up time and the slowing down time. ADVANTAGE - The machine replaces a manually operated economy programme button by automatic measuring and control means.
