Thin or multilayer sheets of rare metals are used as sorption layers. The sorption layers, consisting of one or more small baskets of high-melting wires, are wetted by fluid rear earth metals. The small baskets are prepared from 6-12 lateral twisted W-wires of 0.1 to 0.3 mm dia. and are treated at a heat power of 30 to 150 watts. The holding of the fluid rare earth metal is improved by a fine ball of W,Ta or Mo wire of 0.01-0.05 mm dia. in the inside of the small W basket. ADVANTAGE - Uses 10 times less heating power for prodn. of a layer of double pump power in the redn. of residual gas pressure in ultra high vacuum plants.
