CLOSED SYSTEM CONNECTOR ASSEMBLY

PURPOSE: To provide a connector assembly that is simple in structure and has a proven ability to keep sterility. CONSTITUTION: A closed system connector assembly is formed by a male connector 21 and a female connector 22. Both of the connectors 21, 22 have respective rubber films 33 which can be pierced by a hollow needle 30 placed inside the female connector 22. In some embodiments, the film of the female connector 22 is attached to a collapsible tube 34 placed 'around the hollow needle 30. The collapsible tube 34 is crushed during insertion of the male connector 21 and extends when the male connector 21 is pulled out. In another embodiment, the female connector 22 has a housing 28 supporting the needle 30, and the housing 28 can slide within a sleeve supporting the film 33.
