The rotating drum (2) at least in the region of the heat application zone (5), has a lining of ceramic material on the side facing the heat treatment chamber. This ceramic material is of Al2O3 or a carbide, eg. Si-carbide. There is a gap between the rotating drum and the inner lining which is filled with a gasified medium in order to reduce heat transfer to the drum. USE/ADVANTAGE - Heat treatment of metal powder. The ceramic material prevents the caking of the drum surface with the product being heat treated.
