PURPOSE: To provide a method for treating latent viral infection, esp. preventive and active therapeutic method against latent viral infection through increasing the intracellular synthesis of cysteine and/or glutathione. CONSTITUTION: This method for treating latent viral infection comprises a process to administer a patient suffered from latent viral infection with such a quantity of a non-cysteine substrate stimulating the intracellular synthesis of glutathione as to be enough to increase the intracellular glutathione level of the patient.
