Simulation apparatus for testing material and lubricant properties of homokinetic joints uses test specimens (13, 15) with original geometries or parts taken from original joints. The apparatus has a holding device (11) able to be inserted in a press (60), in particular of a conventional four-ball apparatus, to hold a test ball (33) securely with pro-tension between two test specimens (13, 15) with ball race channels (13a, 15a) with channel bases intersecting at 90 DEG in plan view. The ball race channels (13a, 15a) are able to move relative to each other in two directions perpendicular to each other and to a pre-tensioning direction so that rolling and sliding movements superimposed one on the other occur between the ball and ball race channels, in a manner similar to the original joints. The high loading of the test specimens which can be achieved allows particularly short test times under conditions close to reality, at the same time with low structural expenditure. A holder (31) for specimen (15) is rotatably mounted eccentrically of a drive member (41) so that when the latter is rotated by a motor (77) the specimen (15) moves in a circular path. <IMAGE>
