摘要 <p>PURPOSE:To enable the recognition of a specific substrate removal rate in real time with high accuracy by measuring the respiration rate and ATP value in activated sludge, determining a purification efficiency index and determining the specific substrate removal rate in the activated sludge from this index and a prescribed calibration curve. CONSTITUTION:The waste water discharged from respective homes and factories is admitted into a adjusting later 2 and is subjected to removal of coarse dust, soil and sand, etc., in an activated sludge treatment process. The waste water is then transferred into an aeration tank 4. The activated sludge is added to the waste water in this tank 4 and the waste water is mixed and aerated by the air sent from a blower 3 and released into the waste water to oxidize and assimilate the org. matter in the water by the effect of aerobic microorganisms. The supernatant liquid is thereafter separated by a final settling tank 5 and is released through a disinfecting tank 6. The respiration rate and ATP value in the water are measured in such a case and purification efficiency index is determined by dividing the respiration rate by the ATP value. The specific substrate removal rate in the activated sludge is determined from this index and the prescribed calibration curve and is used for helping purification control.</p>
