PURPOSE:To provide a light deflector whose consumed current is low, whose response time is short and whose constitution is simple. CONSTITUTION:An optical waveguide 5 having higher refractive index than a substrate 3 consisting of a ferroelectric is formed on the surface of the substrate 3. An interdigital electrode 7 which generates elastic surface wave by piezoelectric action and a planar electrode 9 which impresses electric field in thickness direction are provided on the surface of the optical waveguide 5 and on the emitting end face 13 of the optical waveguide 5, respectively. A laser beam 23 emitted from a laser light source 21 is deflected in the width direction of the optical waveguide 5 by the elastic surface wave generated by the electrode 7 in virtue of piezoelectric action and continuously deflected in the thickness direction of the optical waveguide 5 by the electric field impressed by the planar electrode 9. |
