PURPOSE:To obtain a recording material suitable for OCR using a light source with an emission wavelength near 650nm by using an azaphthalide compound of a specified formula as electron donating leuco coloring matter and to obtain a recording material showing a black tone when mixed with other coloring matter. CONSTITUTION:A recording material utilizing the coloration by an electron donating leuco coloring matter and an electron accepting color developer, in which an azaphthalide compound of formula I (wherein R<1> is 1-5C alkyl; and X is H, CH3, OCH3, OC2H5 or Cl) is used as the electron donating leuco coloring matter and a fluoran compound of formula II (wherein R<2> and R<3> are each 1-8C alkyl, 2-5C alkoxyalkyl, cyclohexyl, phenyl, etc.; R<4> is H, CH3 or Cl; and R<5> and R<6> are each H, 1-5C alkyl, Cl or F) is used in combination therewith. The use of the compound of formula I can give a recording material suitable for OCR using a light source with an emission wavelength near 650nm, and the use of the compound of formula II with the compound of formula I can gibe a recording material showing a black tone. |
