PURPOSE:To guarantee the protection of a passenger and simplify the constitution of a protecting device by starting a pretensioner first after detecting the collision of a vehicle to prevent the forward inclining position of the passenger, and then developing an air bag. CONSTITUTION:In the comparing means 21 of a collision judging means 30, an acceleration signal (g) outputted from an acceleration detecting means 12 is compared with a collision level (go) stored in a collision level storage means 22. When (g) exceeds (go), the integrated value computing means 24 is started. The started integrated value computing means 24 integrates the acceleration signal (g) and outputs the integrated value DELTAV to a comparing means 25, where DELTAV is compared with the specified threshold DELTA0 of a threshold storage means 26, and a collision is judged when DELTAV exceeds DELTAV0. Then a pretensioner driving means 15 is energized, and at the same time, a timer 23 is started. The timer 23 energizes an air bag driving means 14 upon the lapse of the specified time after its start. Accordingly, there is no need to install a large number of collision detecting acceleration sensors, and thus a protecting device is simplified. |
