PRODUCTION OF EXHAUST GAS PURIFYING CATALYST

PURPOSE:To prevent the elution of a barium oxide component into an aqueous solution of a noble metal salt even when the aqueous solution of the noble metal salt is brought into contact with the surface of a carrier composed of barium oxide-alumina double oxide when a noble metal is supported on the surface of the carrier. CONSTITUTION:After an alcohol solution containing a granular carrier 1 composed of barium oxide-alumina double oxide and aluminum alkoxide is prepared, alminum alkoxide is hydrolyzed to form a hydrolysate 2 on the surface 10 of the carrier 1 to obtain a hydrolysate-containing carrier 1A. The hydrolysate- containing carrier 1A is dried and baked to produce a catalyst carrier 1B having a catalyst support layer 2a composed of activated alumina on the surface 10 thereof. The catalyst carrier 1B having the catalyst support layer 2a is brought into contact with an aqueous solution of a noble metal salt to support a noble metal 3 on the catalyst support layer 2a.
