The slabs for sound and heat insulation of buildings have the mineral fibres secured together by a bonding agent into strips, which are then glued together.The strips(18,19) are assembled so as to give different patterns of fibres, and those at two opposite edges are machined to form tongue-and-groove joints(22). The edge strips can be of high mechanical strength, being milled into T-sections. Alternatively, the strips can be offset in alternate directions to form the joints.Where fire danger is great, the edges can be of material forming foam under the effect of heat. ADVANTAGE - Lightweight design with mechanical strength, and easy assembly to form large insulating surface.
