A multi-function arthroscope (10). A rod lens (28), a laser channel (32), an irrigation tube (36), a suction tube (42), and optical fibers (48) are housed within a sleeve (26) that is in turn housed within a tubular sheath (22) of the arthroscope. Thus, the physician illuminates the operation site with the optical fibers (48), views the operation site through the rod lens (28), performs laser surgery with laser radiation propagated by the laser channel (32), irrigates the site with saline solution through the irrigation tube (36), and vacuums the debris with the suction tube (42), all in a single insertion of the arthroscope (10) through a single incision. Connector members join the laser channel (32), the irrigation tube (36), the suction tube (42), and the optical fibers (48) to an external source of coherent light, an external source of saline solution under positive pressure, an external source of negative pressure, and an external source of incoherent light, respectvely. |
