PURPOSE:To obtain the subject ceramics capable of improving characteristics of hardness and stiffness, etc., and lengthening life of tools, and simultaneously preventing chipping or increase of abrasion at the time of cutting in cutting a hardly cuttable material such as Inconel(R), etc., to which high mechanical characteristics are required. CONSTITUTION:In the objective ceramics, a silicon carbide whisker is dispersed in the matrix such as alumina and areas in which whiskers exist compactly are uniformly scattered in the matrix and a free carbon amount in the ceramics is <=0.16wt.%. |
