The forward section of the vessel (2) has an ice cutting form that produces a clean cut channel in the ice. Deployed outwards from the main body of the vessel (1) are a series of wheels (R) raised and lowered on articulated arms. The pressure of braking of the wheels on the ice is variable to suit ice conditions. The wheels are driven and thus are propulsive force to the vessel. ADVANTAGE/USE - In confined waters, ships propellers for effectiveness, the laterally deployed wheels increase speed of vessel.
