QUANTITATIVE PRECIPITATION ESTIMATION METHOD USING DUAL POLARIZATION RADAR

The present invention relates to a quantitative precipitation estimation method capable of estimating precipitation by quantifying changes in a precipitation estimation relational expression in accordance with a maximum diameter of the raindrops, based on the characteristics of variation of a drop size distribution (DSD) for both a radar variable observed by a dual-polarization radar and an amount of precipitation. The method comprises: a step of classifying the drip size distribution (DSD) for the amount of precipitation and each radar variable of a dual-polarization radar, including horizontal reflectivity (Z_HH), differential reflectivity (Z_DR), and specific differential phase (K_DP), in accordance with maximum diameters; a step of deriving a maximum diameter calculation relational expression using a relationship among the classified maximum diameters, the horizontal reflectivity (Z_HH), and the differential reflectivity (Z_DR); a step of deriving a precipitation estimation relational expression having coefficients A and b using a relationship between a precipitation for each size and the differential reflectivity (Z_DR) after classifying maximum diameters calculated using the derived maximum diameter calculation relational expression in accordance with a predetermined size gap; a step of inducing the coefficients A and b of the derived precipitation estimation relational expression using the maximum diameter calculation relational expression; a step of deriving an idealized precipitation estimation relational expression by applying the induced relational expressions of the coefficients A and b to the derived precipitation estimation relational expression; and a step of estimating a precipitation using the derived idealized precipitation estimation relational expression.
