The tappet (1) has a housing (3) with a hollow cylindrical sleeve (15) of light alloy and a base (4) with a concentric compensation element (8), comprising a guide sleeve (2) fixed to the housing sleeve. A pressure piston (9) has its endface (10) at the end (11) of a valve shaft (12). An inner piston (14) is arranged inside the pressure piston. The compensation element is surrounded by a ring shaped oil reservoir (20). The guide sleeve is ring shaped, slit and elastically deformable at least in the region of its external bonding (16). The bonding passes through an angle (21) and lies against the inner face (17) of the tappet sleeve (15). An internal bonding (29) faces the pressure piston and is also angled (28) to the piston.
