The present invention provides a method and device for recognizing a main region of an image. The method comprises: receiving a to-be-recognized image, and extracting a candidate main region of the image; excluding a non main region in the extracted candidate main region to acquire a target candidate main region, and adjusting and classifying the target candidate main region to acquire at least one target candidate main region set; and combining target candidate main regions in each target candidate main region set to recognize a main region of the image. By means of method and device for recognizing a main region of an image in embodiments of the present invention, a main region of an image can be accurately acquired, and main regions corresponding to multiple main bodies in an image containing multiple main bodies can be recognized.
