The present invention relates to a dried seaweed known as Eucheuma and the process of drying thereof to achieve a Golden Yellow Colored product. More particularly, the invention relates to detailed process of achieving a dried Golden Yellow Colored Eucheuma spinosum or Eucheuma cottoni that is edible and can be stored with a longer shelf life. Seaweeds are grown for 45-60 days, harvested, thoroughly washed and sorted to remove remaining debris, filth and other seaweed varieties. Clean seaweeds are sun dried on top of elevated platforms laid with nets, covered with clean polyethylene liner for 4 hours or until sweating is observed. The polyethylene liner is then removed and drying is continued under strong sunlight for approximately 3 days or until a moisture content of more or less 20 pcnt is attained. After drying, the seaweeds are transferred to the airing room for at least a day, packed in bulk with polyethylene liner and double packed using polypropylene sacks ready for final packing. The golden yellow dried seaweed is finally packed in nylon LLDPE plastic bags ready for commercial trade. |
