Prodn. of pure isomers (I) of chemical elements (II) is carried out by (a) determining whether the substance (III) present contains one or more isotopes of (II); (b) determining whether different nuclear isomers are present; (c) investigating which valency angle arangement occurs in the desired nuclear isomer and which atomic bond is esp. stable, above all others, for this isomer alone with a certain mol. arrangement and temp.; and (d) synthesising a suitable cpd. according to the above instructions; or (e) sepg. the isotope or synthesis of the nucleus by physical methods. If possible, (I) are prepd. by isotope sepn. in the usual way, e.g., by diffusion, distn., centrifuging, mass spectroscopy or electrolysis, etc. (III) is vaporised in a furnace, in a flame, by laser radiation or with an electric arc and cooling is carried out in dosed amts. in vacuo or in a reaction medium, e.g., noble gas, in such a way that only the most temp.-stable crystal lattice can develop. Vaporisation and fractional crystal formation are repeated many times, until the desired result is obtd. Otherwise, the desired (I) nuclide is produced by converting a suitable different pure isomer nuclide by bombardment with neutrons, protons, deuterons or alpha particles or with suitable pure isomer nuclei
