The hitch assembly comprises a remotely operable unit for releasably grasping the hinge pins of a bucket or rock hammer so that implements can be quickly and easily interchanged without removal of the pins. In use, the remotely operable unit is operated from the hydraulic system of the excavator or backhoe. The remotely operable unit comprises a pair of opposite directed jaws (13,14) which are adapted to releasably grasp the hinge pins. One of the jaws is fixed and the other is movable between a withdrawn position in which the jaws can be fitted between the hinge pins (15,16) and an extended position in which the pins are grasped by the jaws.
